Feed the Students, Not the System

The School Lunch Movement was made to protest against the increase of school lunches.  We support buying cheap lunch for students. Since the economy is going bad, some students don't have the increasing prices of lunch everyday.

Allusion Poem

I'm hunter
I'm vigilant
I shoot arrows
Just like my words
It's quick
But it can be deadly
I care for animals
Just like I care for my friends
I'm protective
I'm more active at night
Nature is my comfort zone
But my best feature is
dealing with sickness
and I'm well known for
caring for children.

Angry Letter

Dear Athletic Department,

We have a great program and we appreciate everything that you do for all the sports team. I appreciate how you keep this program going. It's going so well. We have such a great teams for each sports.

I was on the JV Girls Tennis and most of us have been complaining that we don't have a transportation. Each team has one but we don't. It's not really fair to us. Although we have a small team, it does not give us girls a good reason for us not to have bus transportation. Also, some of our parents are mad about how this team doesn't have one.

I would like it if this athletic department start providing this JV girls tennis team a transportation. Besides, doesn't each team have a budget? Shouldn't the bus transportation be part of our budget? So please, let this team have a bus transportation.

Sincerely,

Lex.

Teen Depression ( Essay )

Teen depression should not not be taken lightly because it is a serious condition. In this century, teens usually don't know what depression is anymore. Depression is when a person is upset for over a period of time when they are often undue pressure to excel in school, sports, and social circles.  Most teens usually say they're " depressed " when they lose something that's not really important at all. For example, they would post on Facebook that they're " depressed " because they got dumped by the ones they like or they lose something that's really unimportant. Real depression is when  someone loses someone that was very close to them like their family members.

Teens may show that depression isn't such a serious of how they act to it. They aren't really depressed, they're just really upset with something that feels like they're depressed when they're not. When a teen starts doing it, another teen follows them, and so on the society will follow it. Most teens don't really understand what depression is when they come to a relation of it. Society should know what the difference is between depression and being disappointed. Depression shouldn't be something society should take lightly. When someone is actually depressed, others wouldn't be able to notice what real depression is.

Society should take depression seriously because they wouldn't know how the person that is actually depressed feel. Among teens, one in eight may suffer from depression. Of all these children and teens struggling with emotional and behavioral problems, a mere 30% receive any sort of intervention or treatment. The other 70% simply struggle through pain of mental illness or emotional turmoil, doing their best to make it to adulthood. People should help others that are in need because of this serious problem.

Depressed people can never do things alone. They can never make it on their own. Society should watch how they act. They never know when it's depression or not. They should never take depression so seriously, they can hurt the ones that are actually depressed.

College Essay ( Draft. )

College: University of South California ( USC )
Prompt: Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
A student may say it’s a prison, another may say it’s a place to learn. School is all about the learning. Students may think it’s a waste of time, however it’s not. Their parents care for their education and wants them to have a better future.  I wouldn’t know anything about the world we live in without school.  I wouldn’t know how this world started, how it changed over time, etc. Learning new things everyday helps you keep in mind that school isn’t such a bad place. Keeps me going from doing inappropriate things, learning what’s right and what’s wrong, and helping you to decide what is better for my future.
School teaches you a lot of things. It isn’t just learning ABC’s and 123’s. School allows my mind to explore. It teaches me to use my mind and my knowledge to improve my life. For example, english helps you fix your grammar when you’re trying to write an essay, or gives you better word choices along the way. Math helps you solve difficult problems just like in real life. You go through hard obstacles and try to find a solution along the way.
Education is really a big impact in my life. It leads me to a better future. It shows me how important to know all of the information you learn in school. It teaches you manners, how to be responsible for your own learning, it gives you options. Options to whether or not you want to be a successful person or an educated person. I can’t imagine someone living without an education. Like in the past, children had to work, trying to survive in the conditions that they had. I’m blessed to have a life where education is free. Where we learn to make better choices, going to school and learning the basics that I need to know in life before getting a job and helping my family.
I want to live a better life. Get a great job that can help me make a difference in myself. My dream is to become a pediatrician. Watching teachers help other students made me want to help others to, just not in a learning way, but to heal others and help them get better. Taking care of little kids are the best. I love little kids so much. School taught me to take care of myself, help others and just to be yourself. It also taught me to be a better person. Compare the person that I was before, High school really taught me well. I was just a normal girl, just trying to have fun. Slacking off in school then high school hit me. I now know that education is important in life. It’s teaching me a life lesson, to be that better person I want to be. To be the one that everyone likes.

Coming of Age

" LEX! TIME TO WAKE UP! " was the first thing I heard in the morning. Looked at the clock it was 6:50am. I was thinking why I had to wake up so early in the morning on a weekday, then I realized it was time for school! My heart started pounding since I totally forgot about it. I got up, rushed out of bed and went to go freshen up.

I checked my phone and I saw bunches of texts from my friends asking me what I'm wearing. " OMG! I don't even know what I'm gonna wear. " came out of my mouth. I was freaking out because I wasn't prepared for anything. I didn't have my things ready for me to go to school. I felt so out of place. Hello! Wake up call. Today is the day that I start becoming more responsible for my actions. No more " I'm lazy to do my work ", or slacking off.

I went to school, met up with my friend, Leah. We walked around the school to get used to where the buildings are. We stood by G building, just talking. I was so nervous to go to class. Wondering who I could talk to, who I could sit next to, and importantly who I knew. I love meeting new people, but I get so scared to talk to them. " What happens if they don't like me? " keeps popping up in my head when I talk to someone new.

School started, we had CAP first. I went in the class.. " Hi Josh! " was the first thing I said. I remembered him from my elementary days. He was an old friend. It was good seeing him again. It's a good thing that I sat next to him. We caught up with each other. As time went by, it was period 1, media class. I was so anxious to see who the teacher was. I went inside, sat down by Leah and looked around the room. I felt so shy seeing my new classmates. They seemed so scared. Ms. Nishite, I mean.. Mrs. Tomimbang walked in the room.. introduced herself and talked. Time went by again, period 2, Japanese. Sensei ( teacher ) seemed so nice! Well, she is. She looked like she was going to be a fun teacher. I liked my schedule for freshman year. Third period came and I had Mrs. Tomimbang again. I felt weird having her in two classes but I went along with it.

At the end of school, I felt relieved. I wasn't ready for school but I know I had to do good. In the morning, I would always, always, always encourage myself to do better during high school year. Having faith in myself was all I needed. Trusting myself was the most. " Today is the day I grow up, mature myself, and become a better person. "
